Sugar and Dieting: The Sugar Buster Diet

By Deen Dragonovich

You may or may not have heard of the sugar buster's diet but it is becoming one of the most popular forms of diet today. The basics of this diet are quite simple. The diet itself lasts for only 14 days where your diet consists of strictly 30% protein, 40% fat and 30% carbohydrates. Eliminating all sugar from your diet during this duration is the main concept of the sugar buster diet.

You see, when you consume sugar, your body creates insulin. Some believe that insulin prohibits the body from losing weight and that it may in fact cause weight gain. Studies have proven that sugar and insulin can lead to heart disease, but the connection between weight and insulin has not been scientifically confirmed yet.

Sugary foods also contain large amounts of calories which also lead to weight gain. So, even if there is no correlation between insulin and weight gain, the fact that most people who eat sugary foods consume more calories than those who don't could explain why the sugar buster diet works for so many.

The major problem with the sugar busters diet is that is only lasts for 14days. As with any diet that has a time limit such as this, it can be hard to know how to continue with your diet and food choices once the diet span is over. If you have lost weight you may want to continue on with the diet for the long term but this may be difficult when put into affect for more than two weeks.

If you want to eliminate sugars from your diet, you should avoid the following: honey, molasses, corn syrup, refined sugars and soft drinks that contain sugar. Be sure to read ingredient labels and shun all foods containing these ingredients.

But you can't just merely eliminate foods from your diet. You have to introduce healthy foods as well. Be sure to include the following: healthy whole grains, pastas, fruits and veggies. You may have to change your diet completely to eliminate all sources of sugar.

The sugar buster diet is a fad diet because it only lasts for a short time. Unfortunately, fad diets do not have a high success rate. In order to be truly successful, a diet needs to be a life changing event. It needs to be followed long term. In fact, anyone who wants to lose weight does not need a diet, they need a lifestyle change.

Taking off weight and subsequently putting it back on is unhealthy. Plus it is a lot of work. So, do not diet. Adopt a healthy lifestyle. The pounds will come off naturally and you will feel great! - 16004
