By Harold Ulvaeus

Many who are interested in maintaining a healthy colon do more than having colon hydrotherapy sessions they also eat foods that are cleansing to the colon. There are many tasty and delicious foods that act like brooms in the intestine, and consumed in conjunction can have a great effect.

Fasting with vegetable juices. A very effective way to do a periodic cleanse of the colon is to not consume any solid foods for a period of time. The lack of solid food in conjunction with the preparations for the fast gives your body a chance to release the build up of feces in the colon. While fasts are generally considered to be safe, make sure to consult your doctor prior to a fast.

Vegetables. Leafy green vegetables such as kale, broccoli and spinach has shown to have a positive effect on the colon. Maybe you were not too thrilled when your mother insisted you eat your spinach, but the truth is that even if broccoli doesn't thrill you, there are an abundance of recipes to be found that will make any vegetable into a delicious, mouth watering side dish. Fresh spinach sauteed in some olive oil with fresh garlic make a very tasty and healthy addition to your meal.

Fruit.Fruit is one of the best foods that cleanse the colon quickly and efficiently. The natural fibers found within fruits help to promote regularity. Many fruits, including prunes and grapes, actually serve as a laxative and can help break up constipation.

Whole Grains. Grains still containing their hull, and thus the fiber content, are another source of natural colon cleansers. Look for breads with whole grains, and pasta with whole grains.

Besides adding foods beneficial to your colon, avoiding some less than healthy foods is also part of the program. Some foods to avoid are fried foods, fast foods, french fries and hamburgers. Use healthy oils in your cooking, such as canola oil and olive oil.

High calorie foods devoid of nutrients such as ice cream, cakes, cookies and candy should be avoided as well. By avoiding some unhealthy foods, adding some healthy foods, and getting regular exercise you'll come along way in keeping your colon clean. - 16004
