Do ya have to have a Belly to use a belly putter???

By Golf Guru Guy

"What's up with belly putter" Everyone's been asking this quesion since Sergio Garcia miraculously improved his putting stroke at last year's British Open and TPC.

In a nutshell - Belly Putters are designed to reduce the "degrees of freedom" allowed a player when they putt. Belly putters are a great option for those players having a hard time making an arc with their putting stroke and are the latest craze amongst players looking to improve their scores on the green. Belly putters are supposed to be good from short range but could be dangerous on distance control for longer putts.

Finding the correct length belly putter is critical. While the longer length reduces range of motion, it also reduces feedback provided to the golfer when he swings. This drawback has led detractors to call the long yip-stick a putter for the desperate.

The detractors go on to ask why everyone in the majors doesn't use one if they're so great. "Who cares what statistics say about the belly putter's greatness? Show us the real deal!" Well, Sergio is definitely proof that it can work. Now, if only he could walk away with the green jacket at August of the Masters whilst wielding one, the skeptics could go home...

Belly putters are associated with older players, but Sergio Garcia's putting has cost him so much that he's using one. Men who use belly putters are basically announcing to the world that they have the yips and are desperately searching for a cure Sometimes, there is no cure, Just ask some of the best ball strikers on the mini-tours who never quite made it because of their putting I for one say, if it helps you, go for it.

Another weapon in the golfer's arsenal, belly putters come in fixed lengths ranging from 100 cm to 115 cm. If you step over to our putting section, you'll see many manufacturers of the infamous yip-stick.

As the season draws closer look for reviews on all the best belly putters, written by yours truly.

I happen to be one of the ones that thinks they're for old guys with bad backs, but we shall see... - 16004
