Sleep Disorders Brief Overview

By Susan Pillows

Suffering from severe sleep disorders can be impairing in most of the life situations. Such people are so tired and exhausted, that a normal life is no longer possible. They may fall asleep while at work, or while driving, which is one terrible situation. Many accidents occurred because of drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

The most common sleeping trouble is insomnia. This is the inability to fall asleep for long periods after going to bed. If neglected, insomnia can have severe consequences in the day life of the sufferer, making him even sleep at work, or in transportation means. It can be cured if the cause is discovered and treated properly.

Aside from insomnia, which has daytime consequences, another severe condition can even become lethal. This is the sleep apnea and it is life threatening by suffocation. All body organs rest while we sleep and so do the muscles and the immune system. When in danger, the life saving reactions may occur with a small delay that may mean death for some of us.

Snoring is an ailment which rather bothers your sleeping partner. However, there are cases of patients who woke up from their sleep because they were making too much noise when snoring out loud.

Who hasn't heard about sleepwalkers? As the name says, they get out of bed and start walking around the house, then they go back to bed as nothing ever happened. They are sleeping during all this time and they don't remember anything from their night walk the next day.

Chronic patients are required to take medication which may cause them to feel very sleepy throughout the day. Usually they are warned not to drive during the treatment. Anti allergic medication is known for giving such side effects. - 16004
