Stretch Marks and What You Can Do For Them

By Pat Johnson

Before we can discuss stretch marks and how to best treat and prevent them, we need to begin with an explanation with what they actually are and how they are formed. First and foremost stretch marks are scars. They are actual tears in the dermis as the skin has been stretch beyond its capacity.

Stretch marks are a risk any time there is an occasion of rapid weight gain or weight loss. Typically it is pregnant women who are affected due to the sudden stretching of the stomach as the baby grows. But this is not the only group that is subject to getting them.

Weightlifters often grow muscle very quickly. As a consequence they tend to get stretch marks as well; usually on their arms and chest. Teens get them during puberty as well when they hit growth spurts.

There are numerous stretch marks creams like Trilastin-SR that are available for purchase both online and off. The have been famously featured on daytime talk shows and in magazine. Customer reviews and testimonials are mostly positive.

Surgery is another option to treat stretch marks. Unfortunately this can be both costly and painful. Be sure to consult with your physician if you want more information about this choice.

But when it comes right down to it the best remedy is to prevent getting them to begin with. During pregnancy keep your skin ultra moisturized so that it is supple and can best handle the rigors of pregnancy growth. Also try to exercises and eat wisely so that weight gain is kept as moderate as possible. This of course is easier said than done.

For some, their stretch marks are a tremendous source of stress and anxiety. They are ashamed of their bodies and uncomfortable going to the beach or swimming pools. This is unfortunate, because it is unnecessary. Feel proud of your baby scars as they are natural and surely look worse to you than they do to anyone else. - 16004
