New Year - how to create the best 2009 for yourself!

By Hayley Weatherburn

The countdown is over - 2009 is here, probably sprung on you quite quickly, or maybe it couldnt have come quicker! Now is the time everyone is thinking about New Years resolutions, or what they want to achieve. How do you create an awesome year to come? I have put together 6 points that will assist you in creating and achieving a year to remember.

1. Celebrate your success first! That is right, before you go ahead and organise 2009s achievements it is best to look back and realise all the things you achieved in 2008. This is important to help you realise that you have actually achieved a lot in the past year! No success is too small! It can be personal, financial, health "related or even spiritual. Maybe you made it to every soccer practise of your sons, maybe you jogged that 2km route you had wanted to do, or you got a promotion at work, or made a garden in the back yard! Everything counts! Once you have your list - be proud, celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done!

2. Well done on your accomplishments! The nest step which will support you in your future successes is to put down on paper the reasons you believe helped you in achieving those goals. Were there obstacles that you managed to overcome, and if so - how did you do it? What was the key point that pushed you over the line? All the lessons learned here will help you in your achievements this year.

3. Now that you have realised that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, it is a good idea to set out some goals for this year. Write down things that you would like to achieve this year, including one big goal that if you achieve it, it would make 2009 the best year yet! Just list them down, it can be as many as you like. Dont worry about how you are going to achieve these goals; this will come to you later. Once you have let your creative juices flow - go through and prioritise what are important to you. Pick a top 10 to work on.

a. NOTE - it is important in your list that you actually write goals that YOU want to achieve " not what your parents want you to achieve, not what your boyfriend/girlfriend wants you to achieve and definitely not what your boss wants you to achieve. This point is key, because you will never be as motivated to achieve other peoples goals as you would your own. Lets just stick to making the most important person here happy and that is YOU!

4. With your top 10 goals, go through and describe each one. Write down a few sentences on each - what you would be doing when you have achieved the goal, how it would make you feel - what others would say to you. The more descriptive you can be the better. Write it in the present tense, writing it as if you were in the moment of achieving the goal.

5. VERY IMPORTANT: this next point is where things really start happening, so do not skip this step! After each goal, write down why this goal is important to you. Write what it would mean if you never achieved it - you need to get to the reasons why so that you can consciously realise the importance of the goal.

6. Prioritise your goals for the year. You can even select specific dates to set them by. Have this list in order somewhere where you can see it often. Finally, and very importantly, dont worry about the how... just have your goals somewhere you can see, revisit them regularly and let fate, the universe, God, or whatever you believe in take care of you getting there. Your job is to live as if you had achieved them already, and the how will be attracted to you.

As long as you are being the person that achieves these goals, the people or things will be attracted to you in order for you to achieve them. Have an absolutely successful 2009 and remember to enjoy each present moment. I will leave you with a quote from Rhonda Burn of The Secret: You can turn your life into paradise but the only way you can do it is to make the inside of you a paradise. There is no other way. You are the cause, your life is the effect. - 16004
