Scarless Tummy Tuck Explained

By Brandon Geberinger

A partial abdominoplasty is called a scarless tummy tuck. This method is done by a cosmetic surgeon. Scars will be less visible with this type of tummy tuck. The best candidates for a scarless tummy tuck are those who tried diet and exercise but still cant firm up or improve the loss of elasticity in their abdomen. Pregnancy, age or rapid weight gain can cause loss of elasticity. This procedure works best if your problem is in the lower abdomen and your abdomen doesnt overhang excessively. When the surgeon removes excess skin and tightens up the muscles than your lower abdomen will look firm.

A scarless tummy tuck has a lower risk for complications because this type of operation is usually only a few hours long. If you smoke, you should try to stop approximately two weeks before your tummy tuck to make sure you heal well. Your surgeon will give you all the information you need so youre ready for the surgery.

Anesthetic can be general or local but a sedative is usually given if its local. This type of tummy tuck isnt as invasive as a full tummy tuck so liposuction may also be needed.

The incision is put in the small area directly above the pubis and the skin flap is stretched down. The skin is tightened after the fat is removed and than the skin flap is stitched back into place. The belly button isnt removed during this procedure. Only a small scar remains above the pubic area which can be concealed with underwear.

The hospital stay is very short after a scarless tummy tuck. Usually patients can go home the same day they have the surgery performed. You can expect some pain, tenderness, swelling and bruising that may last up to six weeks. It may be possible to do light activities in a few days but full recovery could take a whole month. Stitches are removed approximately 10 days after a scarless tummy tuck. Activity needs to be increased to prevent blood clots and help you recover faster. Its important to follow your surgeons orders and keep every appointment to make sure everything is fine. - 16004
