Safe Way To Set Up A Trampoline On Unleveled Ground

By Jane Bracken

Have you always wanted a trampoline in your yard, but have a yard that is unlevel? I may have your answer. W either you need to lower your yard or raise it up, this article will give you the easy steps to accomplish your task.

The first option that you have is to create a level place in your yard. In order to do this you will need to either remove some dirt or add some dirt. If you decide to remove dirt, it may just take a bit of work with a shovel, however if your yard has extreme elevation changes you may need to rent a bobcat or other small piece of excavating equipment.

Before getting crazy with an excavator, purchase a string level from your local hardware store. To use, place the stakes in the ground on opposite sides of your site and run a string between them. Grab a friend and place the level between the two on the string. Then move it along the string until it is level.

Now that you have a level string you can use a stick and verify that the ground is level all along the string by marking the stick and moving it to different points along the line. If your mark is above the string you need to remove some dirt from that area. If your mark is below the string you will need to add some dirt to that area.

Rotate the string many times to make sure the area is level. Next, use a rake for the fine leveling. Finally, you will need to pat the entire area down, especially if you have added soil. This will tell you if you need to add more soil.

If you are concerned that the dirt on the high side of the newly leveled area is going to corrode and wash onto your trampoline you will want to build a retaining wall to prevent such corrosion. You can find retaining wall blocks that interlock nicely at your local home and garden store.

If your yard has multiple hills and you need to add a lot of soil, you may need to build a small wall. You may be able to build it yourself, but any work done to your house may require a permit from your township. Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork before doing any construction on your property.

I would suggest you build the footings out of cinder blocks and fill the footing with sand or dirt. Once you have built your footings and placed your trampoline on top of them you will want to use stakes to secure the trampoline to the footings so that no slippage occurs.

No matter which option you choose please make sure that you keep safety in mind at all times. A trampoline is great fun and great exercise. Making sure that you provide a level environment for your trampoline will ensure that it is maintained in proper condition for many years to come. If you set your trampoline on uneven ground, you could cause your trampoline undue stress and failure could occur. Happy jumping! - 16004
