Spray Tan Tips and Tales

By Kelly Lau

Many people use tanning booths for years in order to maintain a year round all over tan. Technology has come to the rescue to an industry that is having problems, owing to the rise in cases of skin cancer, with some newer techniques that pose less danger. Many people are now turning to artificial methods as they are generally much safer, especially the popular spray tanning system. There are many fake tan creams available but a spray gives a much more even looking tan and is less likely to cause streaking.

Although the popularity is still to be proved, systems using the new spray tanning technology have been designed for home use. Regardless of the method you choose there are a few basic steps to follow to ensure that you get the best results possible. To ensure a good clean body surface to work with, you will need to remove any dead skin by exfoliation. This can stop the situation where dead skin cells gradually drop off leaving paler patches of skin which immediately tells people you have a fake tan.

Once that stage has been completed, the body needs to be moisturized all over. Secondly, you always want to wear gloves if you are applying the tanning agent yourself to avoid getting the dreaded orange palms which are a dead give away that your tan is fake.

Another tip, often ignored or forgotten, is to ensure that only a light coat is applied to the backs of the hands, feet and the joints as they show up darker and let everyone know that you have used a lotion or cream. When a spray tanning system is used a towel will be needed to wipe off any excess which could cause a streak.

Always stay as still as possible after artificial tanning to allow time for the application to settle down and create an even coating. Consider what you are going to wear once you have applied the fake tan as it tends to stain objects, in particular clothing. The best advice here is to have a change of clothing that is darker than the color of the tan as this way it will not notice. Armed with this information it should be easier to have a fake tan that is safe and available all year round without anyone knowing what it is you are doing. - 16004
